Ramon Magsaysay Award 2025 - Educate Girls

We Made History

Educate Girls has made history as the first Indian organisation to receive the 2025 Ramon Magsaysay Award, Asia’s premier prize and highest honour. Often called the Nobel Prize of Asia, it recognises greatness of spirit and transformative leadership. The award has honoured Indian figures like Satyajit Ray, M.S. Subbulakshmi, Vinoba Bhave and Kiran Bedi, as well as global icons like the Dalai Lama, Mother Teresa and filmmaker Hayao Miyazaki. Educate Girls is proud to now stand among them.

The Ramon Magsaysay Award follows a confidential process. Nominations are gathered from a global network of experts and then go through independent review. Deliberations remain anonymous so decisions rest only on the strength of the work. For Educate Girls, this meant our impact was studied with evidence and field insights before we were chosen as a 2025 awardee. Join us in celebrating this historic milestone.

Why This Recognition Matters

The award honours our work to break cultural barriers and gender stereotypes through education, helping millions of girls reclaim their right to learn. With the support of governments, communities and over 55,000 volunteers, we have brought more than two million girls back to school and supported millions more in learning.

“This honour is a proud milestone for Educate Girls and our country. It celebrates our volunteers and spotlights the millions of girls who have reclaimed their right to education.”

— Safeena Husain, Founder of Educate Girls

“This is a proud moment, but it reminds us how much more there is to do. By 2035, our goal is to improve access and quality of education for 10 million learners.”

— Gayatri, CEO of Educate Girls

This recognition is a responsibility. In the next decade, Educate Girls will work to reach 10 million learners, strengthen systemic change with government partnerships and mobilise ecosystem players towards girls’ education.

Being the first Indian organisation to receive the Ramon Magsaysay Award sends a clear message: when one girl is educated, change multiplies across families, communities and generations.
