{"id":2986,"date":"2019-10-11T11:09:35","date_gmt":"2019-10-11T05:39:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.educategirls.ngo\/?p=2986"},"modified":"2023-09-05T10:32:08","modified_gmt":"2023-09-05T05:02:08","slug":"prashant-realized-that-his-little-sister-would-be-better-off-in-school","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.educategirls.ngo\/blog\/prashant-realized-that-his-little-sister-would-be-better-off-in-school\/","title":{"rendered":"Prashant Realized That His Little Sister Would Be Better Off In School"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.educategirls.ngo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/theme2-final.jpg?w=791\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2987\" width=\"593\" height=\"768\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sushila\u2019s family economic status has never been ideal.&nbsp; Her father struggled to provide for her, her\nmother, and her older brother, Prashant.&nbsp;\nWhen Sushila\u2019s mother found work in a nearby factory, Sushila was\nexpected to fetch water, cook, and keep the house clean.&nbsp; She would wake up every day at 5am to start\nher chores.&nbsp; Often times there were long\nlines at the community water pump, which meant she returned home with barely\nenough time to sweep, bathe, and make breakfast for the family before her\nparents left for work and her brother left for school.&nbsp; They used to walk together, but with\nSushila\u2019s new responsibilities, she was often late to school.&nbsp; Some days she didn\u2019t go at all.&nbsp; She started falling behind in her studies,\nand her grades were dropping.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sushila and her family attended a community meeting set up by <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.educategirls.ngo\/\">Educate Girls<\/a><\/strong> where families and community leaders discussed the importance of girls\u2019 education, and the problem with chore burdens for girls in the community. Prashant realized that his little sister was missing school, unhappy, and would be better off in school.\u00a0 He spoke to his parents and offered to help out with the housework.\u00a0 He agreed to wake up early with his sister and split the chores so that she would have more time to get ready and get to school.\u00a0 At first, their parents were confused; boys don\u2019t usually fetch water and cook food.\u00a0 But Prashant insisted and so his parents relented.
